The L.I.O.N. Youth Mentoring Program (Light In Our Neighborhood) is a culturally responsive, trauma-informed mentoring initiative designed to support youth and families facing adversity.

We serve youth impacted by:

  • DCFS and foster care involvement

  • Low-income and under-resourced households

  • Single-parent families

  • Emotional and behavioral challenges

  • Generational trauma and community violence

  • System involvement and social disadvantage

L.I.O.N. exists to remind every young person that they are seen, valued, and capable of becoming leaders, regardless of their circumstances.

Our Holistic Approach

L.I.O.N. uses a whole-person, whole-family approach that recognizes the emotional, mental, social, and cultural realities youth face.

Core Focus Areas:

  • Emotional expression and regulation

  • Building self-esteem and resilience

  • Coping skills for stress, grief, and anger

Healthy Relationships & Belonging

  • Conflict resolution and peer support

  • Restoring a sense of belonging

Growth & Life Skills

Healing Generational Trauma

Many of the challenges youth face today are rooted in unresolved generational trauma—poverty, displacement, violence, incarceration, neglect, or instability.

L.I.O.N. mentors work with love, compassion, and cultural humility to:

  • Break cycles of trauma

  • Restore dignity and identity

  • Teach healthy emotional patterns

  • Empower youth to write a new story for their future

We believe healing is possible when youth are met with patience, consistency, and unconditional positive regard.

Transforming Minds • Creating Opportunities • Igniting Dreams

Serving South Central Los Angeles & East Los Angeles

Program Vision

Our Youth Leadership Training Program exists to empower young people with the character, confidence, skills, and opportunities they need to rise above limitations and become leaders in their families, schools, and communities.

We believe that when youth are seen, supported, and challenged, they can transform their mindset, rewrite their future, and ignite dreams that once felt out of reach.

Finacial literacy Program

Our goal is to inspire and train our youth, give them the skills to thrive, the ability to know the financial system, and the ability to know how to save and become young entrepreneurs.
